Csenge Zalka

Nemzetközi mesemondó és író. Mesterdiplomáját Fulbright ösztöndíjasként az Amerikai Egyesült Államokban mesemondás (storytelling) szakon szerezte, doktori fokozatát pedig kulturális tanulmányok szakirányon, melyen belül a digitális mesemondás volt a kutatási területe. Előadóként elsősorban hagyományos történeteket – népmeséket, mítoszokat, eposzokat – mesél, magyar, angol, és spanyol nyelven a világ számos országában. Magyarországon és az Egyesült Államokban is több mesegyűjteménye jelent már meg; Ribizli a világ végén: Régi magyar népmesék mai gyerekeknek című kötetét (Móra Kiadó) a 2019-es év gyerekkönyvének választották. 2015 és 2018 között az Európai Mesemondó Szövetség (FEST) irányító bizottságának tagja volt. 2017 óta a Világszép Alapítvány mesemondó szakmai munkatársa; ő koordinálja az alapítvány mesemondó programját, melynek keretei között önkéntes mesélők járnak gyermekotthonokba esti mesét mondani. Emellett szabadúszó előadóként mesél, és mesemondással kapcsolatos szakmai képzéseket és műhelyeket tart angol és magyar nyelven. Clare Murphy mesemondóval közösen szervezi a nemzetközi MythOff – Mítoszok Csatája rendezvénysorozatot. As a Fulbright scholar she completed an MA in Storytelling and a PhD in Culture Studies in the United States; her doctoral dissertation focused on digital storytelling. As a performing storyteller, Csenge mainly tells traditional stories – folktales, myths, epics – in Hungarian, English, and Spanish. She has published several folktale collections both in English and in Hungarian. Her collection titled Dancing on Blades: Rare and exquisite folktales from the Carpathian Mountains (Parkhurst Brothers, 2018.) was a Storytelling World Resource Award and Anne Izard Storyteller’s Choice Award winner in 2019. Csenge was a member of the Federation for European Storytelling (FEST) executive committee between 2015 and 2018. Since 2017 she has been working for the Világszép Foundation in Budapest; she coordinates the foundation’s storytelling program, which trains volunteer tellers to work with children in the Hungarian foster system. As a freelance storyteller, she performs internationally, and teaches storytelling workshops in English and Hungarian. Together with Clare Murphy she curates the international MythOff event series.
